Date of assessment 23 June to 29 July 2025. Yorkshire supported living service is a supported living service which consists of 3 separate buildings with communal facilities and easy access to the community. People living at the service had their own tenancy; and received varying levels of support from the provider. The service supports up to 30 people and 29 people were living at the service at the time of our assessment with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. Not everyone who used the service received personal care, the number at the time of the assessment receiving personal care was 14. The assessment was carried out to review the service due to the age of the previous rating. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found there was a culture of safety and saw concerns were raised and investigated. People were supported to have choice and control and give feedback on their care. Staffing levels were safe, and staff received appropriate support and supervision to carry out their role effectively. Medicines were managed and administered safely. The service had clear and effective governance systems in place. People were involved in assessments of their needs. Staff reviewed assessments, taking account of people’s communication, personal and health needs. Care was based on latest evidence and good practice.

People's experience of the service

Updated 28 May 2025

Relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of care provided. They overall felt their relatives felt safe and they were involved in planning their care. They told us relatives received quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. One relative said, “It is a stable staff team, they are humorous and lovely It couldn’t be better.” Another relative told us, “The carers are a lovely team, personable, hardworking and happy. They bring a good energy and get on with each other.” Several people described how staff treated them kindly and were caring and that the manager is approachable, listens and acts upon information when shared. However, a relative told us they felt compatibility between people living at the service is not always considered and gave an example of someone who is quiet sharing communal spaces with someone who has difficulty managing their emotions and can become distressed. A relative also shared concerns that their relative would often have unexplained bruises and the explanations provided would not always be satisfactory. We discussed these concerns with the registered manager and were assured appropriate actions had been taken to report any possible safeguarding’s and monitor the compatibility of people living with shared facilities. Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them. People told us they felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken. People knew staff and leaders well.
