CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. We rated this service under our previous methodology in July 2019 where it was inspected and rated as good overall. This inspection was undertaken as an aged rating, and we reviewed all 5 key questions.

As part of our inspection, we spoke with people who used the service, staff, the registered manager and the provider’s care performance manager. We reviewed care plans, medication records, recruitment files and quality assurance records.

The provider made sure there were enough skilled and experienced staff to deliver people’s care at the times they had agreed. Care records provided staff with relevant information to meet people’s needs safely and effectively. Staff completed records of the support they provided during each care call which ensured information was shared and people received care in accordance with their assessed needs. Staff monitored people’s health and wellbeing during care calls and reported any concerns to the management team. Staff understood which services to call if people needed medical support or guidance.

There was a clear management structure within the service with defined roles and delegated responsibilities. The management team completed regular audits to assess the quality of the service. They checked people's care plans were completed and regularly reviewed and that medicines were administered safely by staff who continued to be competent to administer them.

Staff were positive about the support they received from the registered manager and valued their role in helping people to continue living the lives they wanted to in their own home. Staff spoke of an inclusive and open culture where they felt confident to own any mistakes and to raise and escalate concerns about people’s safety.

The provider carried out their own audits to ensure their policies and processes were being followed.
