The Montefiore Hospital is an independent hospital located in Hove, within the city of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and is operated by Montefiore House Limited which is part of Spire Healthcare Limited. The service primarily serves the communities of Brighton & Hove. It also accepts patient referrals from outside of these areas. The Montefiore Hospital provides surgery, endoscopy, medical care including oncology, outpatients, and diagnostic imaging services to people over the age of 18. Specialties include orthopaedics, general surgery, gastrointestinal and colorectal endoscopy, ear, nose and throat (ENT), gynaecology, pain management and urology.

Care and treatment are provided to NHS-funded patients and people who have private medical insurance or who self-fund. The service has 20 beds with en-suite, and 6-day case / private treatment pods. Facilities include 3 main theatres, an accredited endoscopy suite, an accredited oncology suite.

The assessment service groups provided are medical care (including older people’s care), diagnostic imaging, outpatients, and surgery. This assessment looked at surgery services and medical care (including older people’s care). We rated medical care (including older people’s care) and surgery services as good. The ratings for medical care (including older people’s care) services and surgery services have been combined with ratings of the other services from the last inspections. The Montefiore Hospital has now been rated as good overall.

The Montefiore Hospital is an independent hospital located in Hove, within the City of Brighton & Hove. The service is operated by Spire Healthcare Limited and opened in 2012. The hospital provides care to self-funded patients, those funded through private medical insurance, and NHS-funded patients under contractual agreements to deliver NHS services. We carried out an assessment of Medical Care services at the Montefiore Hospital.

Medical care services included an endoscopy suite and an oncology suite with 6 private treatment pods. The oncology service offered a chemotherapy service to private patients who attended for treatment on a day case basis. The endoscopy service saw both private and NHS patients. There were no endoscopy procedures planned when we visited. We reviewed patient feedback, complaints and compliments.

We carried out a short-notice assessment on 11th February 2026.

The rating for medical care services has been combined with ratings of the other services from the last assessments.

At this assessment we inspected this service using our single assessment framework and looked at all the key questions and all quality statements.

During our assessment, we spoke with 15 members of staff of all roles and responsibilities, 2 patients and reviewed 18 patient records. We reviewed a range of data on-site and offsite including policies, audits, and standard operating procedures. We also reviewed contacts to our website and concerns information throughout the assessment period.

The Montefiore Hospital is an independent hospital located in Hove, within the City of Brighton & Hove. The service is operated by Spire Healthcare Limited and opened in 2012. The hospital provides care to self-funded patients, those funded through private medical insurance, and NHS-funded patients under contractual agreements to deliver NHS services. We carried out an assessment of Surgery at the Montefiore Hospital. The service has 3 operating theatres, all of which are equipped with laminar airflow systems. Laminar flow in theatres is a system that keeps clean air moving smoothly over the surgical area to reduce the risk of infection. Inpatient accommodation consists of 20 private patient bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities. The hospital also has 6 day‑case pods.

We carried out a short-notice assessment on 11th February 2026. We reviewed this service in response to concerns that had been raised and because the location had not had an assessment since 2017.

At this assessment we inspected this service using our single assessment framework and looked at all the key questions and all quality statements. The rating for Surgery has been combined with ratings of the other services from the last assessments.

During our assessment, we spoke with 21 members of staff of all roles and responsibilities, 7 patients and reviewed 18 patient records. We reviewed a range of data on-site and offsite including policies, audits, and standard operating procedure. We also reviewed contacts to our website and concerns information throughout the assessment period.

Staff reported safety incidents which were appropriately investigated and used to improve the service. The environment was visibly clean and fit for purpose. All equipment used was well maintained. Medicines and prescriptions were handled, stored and prescribed in line with national guidance.
