We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 22 April 2026.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

City Orthodontics is in Leicestershire and provides NHS and private orthodontic care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 10 staff, of which there was the principal orthodontist, 2 orthodontic therapists, 4 dental nurses (including a trainee dental nurse) and 3 receptionists. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection.

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 10 patients. On the day of our inspection, we spoke with a further 2 patients. We also reviewed patient feedback routinely collected by the practice. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included, “My teeth have been very difficult, but consistently for the past 3 years the orthodontist has been very patient and has worked hard to make sure my treatment can end. I can't think of anything to improve on. Their punctuality with appointments is fantastic and the service they offer is award-worthy.”

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. Comments included, “It’s fantastic. Fantastic staff, beautiful looking practice. Always clean. Kind staff. Always there to answer questions and try and fit me in on my days off.”

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. Comments included, “We have been coming for 2 and a half years. Every member of staff from reception to the orthodontists themselves have always been professional, informative, efficient and kind. We have always been informed what was happening and when. We always get an appointment before we leave. If I ever needed to change an appointment (not very often) they were accommodating. Not once did we have to wait for an appointment and each time we were seen staff were friendly, efficient and informative. A very pleasant experience over the time and I would highly recommend this practice.”

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
