During a routine inspection

Beverley Lodge opened in December 2012. It supported people who had mental health needs, but had been assessed as requiring a less intensive input. It also prepared them for more independent living.

Of the six people in residence we spoke with four of them, looked at three care files and spoke with two relatives. We also spoke with four staff.

People were respected and their views were sought and acted upon. People were given choices in their lives and felt able to make suggestions. They were well informed of the care and treatment plans and were part of the decision making process. One person told us: 'If I feel unsure, the staff will help me and give me the extra push I need.'

Care and treatment was well planned. It reflected the care people received and had input from many professionals within the service. External healthcare professional advice was also sought when identified as necessary. Activities formed part of the therapeutic environment and people were given lots of opportunities to take part in meaningful activities. People were also supported to maintain strong links with family and friends.

Auditing activity took place to ensure the service was run effectively. The provider sought the views of people involved with the service and acted on suggestions which could result in improvements. They had not produced a formal customer feedback questionnaire, but the service had not been in full operation for a long enough time.
