During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people who used the service and their relatives. They told us staff treated them with dignity and respect and helped them to maintain their independence. One relative told us 'My parent has said how helpful and friendly the care workers are and that they look forward to their visits'. Another relative told us 'As a family we find the care workers are excellent because they make food to suit our parents taste and meet their cultural preference by speaking in Punjabi to them'.

People we spoke with told us the service they received was good and they were involved in the planning and review of their care. It was clear from discussions with people that they felt comfortable with the support provided to them. They told us staff built a good rapport with the people using the service and they believed staff to be well trained and able to meet their needs. The families of people that we spoke to told us staff supported their relative with their medication.

People we spoke to were able to confirm that care workers usually arrived at their agreed time and supported them as agreed in their care plans. Where there had been initial problems these had been resolved. We saw people and their relatives were in regular contact with the agency and their comments both good and bad were acted on. This meant people's opinions were listened to.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who use the service and their relatives. They told us they felt staff treated them with dignity and respect and helped them maintain their independence. One person told us about their relative 'they have promoted her independence. Rather than doing everything for her, they encourage her to do things for herself'.

People told us they were happy with the care they received and had been involved in planning and reviewing their care plan. One person told us, 'I have been directly involved in planning the care on my (relatives) behalf. What's in place is working well'. People told us they had a good relationship with care workers and were kept informed of any changes. We were told staff arrived on time and stayed for the agreed time period. If their regular care worker could not attend they were informed in advance. People told us 'You know exactly whose coming. They always let you know if they are going to be late, I always get a phone call'.

People told us they felt safe receiving care and had never seen anything of concern. Everyone felt they could raise a concern with the provider and it would be dealt with. People felt that staff were well trained and used equipment correctly and safely. People felt they had the opportunity to feedback their opinions of the service and could raise an issue. One person told us 'They always get back to you promptly and try to address the situation at hand. I think they are fair as well.'
