Elm View Care Home is a purpose-built care home offering nursing, respite, convalescent and palliative care for older people. The assessment commenced on 14 December 2023 The assessment included a site visit to the service by 2 inspectors on 10 January 2024. We looked at 7 quality statements: safeguarding, safe and effective staffing, delivering evidence-based care and treatment, supporting people to live healthier lives, governance management and sustainability and learning improvement and innovation. Following the assessment, the service has received an overall rating of Good. During our assessment, we found concerns around documentation relating to the health, safety and welfare of service users due to inaccurate, incomplete and a lack of contemporaneous record keeping. This resulted in a breach of regulation 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. You can find more details of our concerns in the findings below.

People's experience of the service

People were positive about their experiences of living at Elm View Care Home. People felt safe. They told us at times, there had been challenges in relation to staffing and call bell wait times. However, people felt staff knew them well and provided care in line with their needs and preferences. People using the service told us staff were kind and compassionate and we saw this during our on-site assessment. People felt able to speak with staff or the home manager if they had any worries or concerns. People using the service and their relatives spoke highly of the home manager People and their families were involved in discussions about their care and support. People’s relatives felt their loved one’s pressure care was generally managed well. We heard mixed reviews about the food provided. People gave positive feedback about the activities provided.
