People received the most appropriate care and treatment for them as the service made reasonable adjustments where necessary. The registered manager explained the importance of matching people using a holistic approach; considering if they had similar interests, were of a similar age and likely to build a rapport. Care and support plans reflected people’s health and social care needs. Relevant assessments were completed and up-to-date, from pre-admission through to ongoing reviews of care, including cultural and religious preferences.

Person-centred Care

Score: 3

People’s equality, diversity and human rights were respected. The service’s values centred around the people they supported. People told us they were able to make choices about how they lived in their own home and who they allowed to visit them. The service focussed on maximising people’s life choices and encouraging independent living skills. People and those important to them were involved in the concerns and complaints process, people gave us examples of what action would be taken to keep them safe if something went wrong and how the registered manager would prevent reoccurrences. People told us all staff on site listened to them and if they were not happy with something or wished to raise concerns, they were able to do so. One person told us, “The staff here have helped me when my equipment did not work, they got extra care visits to check on me while it was broken.” Another person told us about the joint meetings “For all tenants, South Shaw Coast CL staff and housing manager…Even someone from the council attends so we can give them feedback.”

Staff knew their responsibilities and had a good understanding of people’s individual needs. People’s care and support plans were detailed and included personal preferences, such as how people liked their personal care delivered. Records also included detailed instructions from health and social care professional, daily notes showed these instructions were followed.
