During a routine inspection

During this inspection we visited two of the multi-occupancy homes where the service was provded to speak to people who used the service.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. People who used the service told us they liked the staff who assisted them and they said they felt well cared for.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse and felt safe when the staff were assisting them.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. People told us that staff practised good infection prevention and control techniques.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. People who used the service told us that they liked the staff that assisted them.

People were given support by the provider to make a comment or complaint where they needed assistance. People we spoke with told us they knew what to do if they were not happy with the service they received.

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people that used the service, because some had complex needs and were not always able to clearly tell us about these.

We sat with people in the lounges, observed care practices and saw how staff and people interacted with each other. We observed that staff treated people with dignity and respect and used a positive and friendly approach. We saw good communication by staff, using eye contact, sign language, touch and use of pictures and photos, in order to engage with people who used the service.

People told us they liked using the service and that staff were 'Friendly' and 'Kind' and that staff listened to their views. People said staff involved them and helped them with making choices about their support. People said staff encouraged them to be as independent as possible and helped them with things like cleaning their rooms. People said they took part in meetings and were consulted to ensure their views about decisions were heard and considered.

People told us that staff were helpful and supported them well with meeting their needs. People told us staff acted quickly to ensure their health needs were met and that they saw a variety of medical professionals when required. People said staff supported them with taking sensible risks and decisions to ensure they were kept safe from harm.

People that used the service told us that staff treated them well and that they felt safe using the service.

People that used the service told us that staff took their concerns or complaints seriously.
