All Inspections

4 February 2014

During a routine inspection

This is a small agency with five people using the service for support with their personal care. We were able to speak with two of these people and two of their relatives. We were also able to speak with three members of staff and the service manager who is in the process of registering with us.

One of the people we spoke with told us: 'I have all the say I want in how my care is provided. If I ask for something to be done a particular, way that is how they do it.' The service had information leaflets for people who used the service and a process to follow up that people had received suitable information.

Care plans included a life history page and provided clear information about how to support each person. We saw that the words 'prompt' and 'encourage' were included in the delivery of personal care.

Staff we spoke with had a good understanding of adult safeguarding. The training records supported that all staff would receive updated training in safeguarding in the near future.

The provider completed all necessary steps to ensure that only people of good character were employed by the agency. We saw that the agency were in the process f recruiting more staff at the time of inspection.

We saw that the service audited most aspects of the delivery of the service and that action plans were drawn up following some of the quality audits when further action was required.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with one person who used the service and the relatives of two people who used the service. We spoke with three members of staff.

We found that the agency promoted people's dignity and respect in the delivery of their care. One person who used the service told us: 'They always treat us with dignity and respect'. One member of staff told us: 'It's very important to maintain people's privacy and dignity'.

We found that the service was still waiting for the provider to issue the new information booklets. However, people who used the service told us that they were getting good information from the manager and staff.

People we spoke with were happy with their care. One person told us: 'They tailor the care to what we want'. We saw that care plans were personal and that they were updated in a timely and appropriate way.

We found that the service had taken suitable steps to keep the people who used the service safe. One of the people we spoke with told us, 'I feel very safe. I will not have just anyone. I told them that before I started using them'.

The service was actively recruiting for some areas, and one member of staff told us, "I am looking to increase my hours". We saw from both training and staff records that the staff had received suitable training to undertake their roles.

We found that the service was auditing the care that it gave and monitoring the quality of the care provided appropriately.
