All Inspections

29 November 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with ten patients, the principal dentist, and two dental nurses.

Patients told us that they were happy with the dental care they received from the practice. Patients told us that they were treated with kindness and respect, had their treatment choices explained to them, and that staff treated them in a way that put them at ease. One patient told us 'I am completely satisfied with the practice.' Another patient commented 'The staff are good at getting to know you as a person, they have always done what is best for me.'

We saw that the practice had a system for gaining consent and that treatment plans were consistently completed. Clear written information was provided to patients about their individual treatment options and the various costs involved.

We examined seven patient records and found that patient's oral and medical health had been comprehensively assessed. For example, checks had been carried out for tooth decay, gum health and problems, jaw and face examinations and oral cancer checks. Patient's medical information including medicines they were taking were up to date.

We toured the practice and found it to be clean and tidy. The practice had effective systems in place to reduce the risk and the spread of infection. We found that infection control procedures were in line with current guidelines from the Department of Health.

We found that there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place for the recruitment and management of staff, and the staff had had the necessary checks.

All aspects of the day to day running of the practice was monitored. This had been reviewed and updated at regular intervals. The provider told us and we saw that regular audits and risk assessments had been carried out to ensure that the practice could evidence and deliver a consistent quality service and make improvements where necessary.
