During a routine inspection
We spoke to two volunteers who were attending on the day of our visit. They each said they were pleased to be taking part and to be making a contribution to medical science. One said: "How lucky I am to be able to do it."
We found that Synexus Manchester placed importance on obtaining informed consent for clinical trials and medical procedures.
We found that the health and wellbeing of volunteers was a high priority for Synexus and for the pharmaceutical companies which were sponsoring the trials.
We found that the equipment used by Synexus was regularly serviced and maintained to minimise any risks to volunteers or staff.
We also found that the quality of the trials was thoroughly monitored so reducing risks to participants.
We asked about recruitment procedures and found that Synexus had not conducted checks to see whether any staff had a criminal record. We considered this meant they were not compliant with the regulations and that this had a minor impact on volunteers in clinical trials. We have asked the provider to take action to meet this standard.
