Date of Assessment: 10 April 2026 to 07 May 2026. Helping Hands Cambridge is a domiciliary care service, providing personal care and support to adults of all ages, some of whom were living with dementia and/or a physical disability. At the time of this assessment 63 people were receiving the regulated activity of personal care from this service. This was a planned inspection due to the service having an aged rating.

People experienced safe, compassionate and personalised care. Staff knew people well and used this knowledge to tailor care, support choices and promote independence. People felt valued and told us care was delivered in a calm and unhurried way that upheld their dignity. Assessments of people’s needs were carried out when they first began using the service and were used to inform care planning. People had detailed care plans and regular reviews ensured these remained current and reflective of people’s needs.

The provider demonstrated a proactive approach to safety, based on openness and honesty. Governance systems were robust and effective and ensured leaders had strong oversight of the service. People, relatives and staff felt supported to give feedback and felt their contributions were valued. Staff acted promptly when needs changed and worked well alongside a range of health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care.

People using the service and their relatives consistently described a very positive experience of care. People told us they felt safe, well supported and reassured by the consistency of staff visiting them in their own homes. Relatives spoke highly of the quality of care and the impact this had on their peace of mind, particularly where people were living with dementia or required ongoing support. One relative told us, “They are quick responders and nothing but really helpful.” Staff were consistently referred to as “kind” and “caring” and it was evident they knew people well. Another relative told us, “They [staff] are very polite and proactive. [Relative] looks forward to them coming and enjoys the daily interaction.” Feedback highlighted that staff supported people in a respectful and person-centred way, taking time to talk with them and ensuring they were comfortable during visits.
