Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 12 August 2026 to 18 August 2026.
The service is a care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 114 older people, including people living with dementia, physical health needs, and nursing needs. At the time of our assessment, 91 people were living at the service. The assessment was triggered due to an aged rating, last being inspected in 2020.
The provider developed a positive learning culture and used audits, incident reviews, and governance systems to monitor the quality and safety of the service. Staff understood people's needs and risks and worked closely with healthcare professionals to support people's safety and wellbeing. People received their medicines safely, risks were identified and managed, and there were enough skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. Staff received regular training, supervision, and support to help them provide safe and effective care.
Staff assessed and reviewed people's needs, and care was delivered in line with current guidance and professional recommendations. Staff worked with healthcare professionals and supported people to access health services when required. People were treated with kindness, dignity and respect, and staff understood their preferences, routines and what was important to them. People were supported to maintain interests, make choices about their lives and remain connected with those important to them. Improvements have been made since the last assessment. People were protected from avoidable harm and risks were managed effectively.
The service was well-led. The provider maintained oversight through audits and quality assurance processes; however, these had not always identified or addressed issues in a timely manner. During the assessment, we identified some inconsistencies in care records, including aspects of end-of-life planning and Mental Capacity Act documentation, where information was not always recorded consistently. We also identified environmental issues requiring further action, including flooring repairs, and replacing shower equipment. The provider responded positively to feedback and demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement. The provider had already taken action, or developed plans, to address these areas.
We found no evidence that these issues affected care received. Overall, people received safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led care from staff who were committed to achieving positive outcomes and supporting people to live meaningful lives.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about their experiences of living at the service and the support they received from staff. People told us they felt safe, well cared for and able to approach staff when they needed assistance. One person said, “People make me feel safe, knowing that somebody is here, someone to talk to.” Another person told us, “The staff make me feel at home. The staff have impeccable manners.”

People and relatives consistently described staff as caring, attentive, and respectful. One person told us, “The staff are fantastic.” A relative said, “The staff are very good, very attentive,” while another told us their family member had been given “very good care.” People said staff listened to them and responded when they needed support. One person told us, “If I need something I ask. I am sure they listen to me.”

People spoke positively about the food, activities, and opportunities available to them. Comments included, “The food is very good,” and “I like living here. I like the people and I like talking to them.” People described enjoying activities such as singing, dancing, art, and spending time in the garden. One person told us, “Drawing keeps me out of mischief.” Relatives also described staff making efforts to understand people's likes, dislikes, and preferences to provide personalised support.

People and relatives felt able to raise concerns and were confident these would be acted upon. One relative described the registered manager as “very approachable” and told us concerns had been addressed quickly when raised. Relatives also reported being kept informed about important changes affecting their family members' care and wellbeing.

Some people were unable to verbally share their experiences with us. We gathered their views through observation and by using individual communication methods. For example, one person was able to communicate non-verbally that they felt safe and that staff listened to them and supported them in the way they wanted. Our observations showed people were comfortable in the presence of staff and received care and support from people who knew them well.
