During an assessment under our new approach

We undertook a follow-up announced on-site inspection on 14 July 2026. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.

We had previously undertaken an announced on-site inspections of Gosport Smile Clinic on 26 November 2024 and a follow-up inspection on 29 April 2025. We had found the registered provider was not providing well-led care and was in breach of regulation 17 (Good governance) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

During our follow-up inspection, we found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Gosport Smile Clinic is part of South Cliff Dental Group, a dental group provider. The practice is in Gosport, Hampshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces were available near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms.During the inspection we spoke with the practice manager, the compliance manager and the head of compliance.

 

During an assessment under our new approach

We undertook a follow-up, on-site inspection on 29 April 2025. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.

We had previously undertaken an announced, on-site inspection of Gosport Smile Clinic on 26 November 2024. We had found the registered provider was not providing safe and well-led care and was in breach of regulations 12 safe care and treatment and 17 good governance of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

During our follow-up inspection, we found the practice had not met all the regulations.

The practice had systems to manage risks. However, improvements were still needed in relation to fire safety.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation.

Infection control procedures followed published guidance.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect. However there was no access to an NHS dentist.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place.
