We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 18 August 2026.

We found the practice had not met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control. However, we observed that some of the response to risks identified were not prioritised and acted on more timeously, for example in relation to risks related to buildings and maintenance of premises.

Written recruitment policies and procedures reflected current legislation. However, our inspection highlighted that some of the required recruitment checks for some staff had not been carried out, and not all checks were routinely held by the provider.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles. We found provider oversight of staff training and recommended continuous professional development did not provide the assurances required in some areas. Systems and processes to underpin good governance were not effective across all areas of the practice.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

BUPA Dental Care Guiseley is part of BUPA Dental Care a dental group provider. The practice is in Guiseley, Leeds and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 6 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 23 staff. We spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. The Quality Improvement Lead for the practice was also present on the day to support staff.

The provider was not complying with Regulations 15 and 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We have asked the provider to submit an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.

We reviewed patient feedback from a number of sources, including on-line feedback, feedback provided through patient surveys following treatment, and through complaints and compliments. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Patients commented positively about the practice staff, the premises and care and treatment they received. They commented on the guidance provided by dental professionals on maintaining their oral health and expressed trust in the clinicians.

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
