During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who had attended an appointment on the day of the inspection. We asked them for their views about the care and treatment they had received. People told us they were happy with the service and the approach of the dentist. People's comments included: 'It's my first appointment since the practice changed hands so I'd not seen the dentist before, but he was excellent, everything done properly. He wore goggles and everything. He suggested my dental care and my options and discussed my medical history. I'm very happy with the dentist and nurse.' 'I'm confident of the advice I was given, he was very gentle.'

We found by speaking and observing staff that there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

We found by speaking with staff and reviewing records that the dentist and dental nurse were registered with the General Dental Council and a number of training events had been organised for them to attend.

St Johns Dental Practice had been operating for a short period of time at the time of our inspection and the dentist spoke of their plans for the future development of the service. For the purposes of quality assurance and the development of the practice the dentist had commissioned the services of an external organisation to support them with compliance, recording and training. A comprehensive action plan had been provided which the dentist was using to develop the service.
