All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We inspected Park Lodge Residential Home to follow-up concerns we had identified as part of a previous inspection. We found that the home had made significant improvements since our previous inspection.

We previously identified concerns about people’s choices, fees charged to people, medication and staffing arrangements. As part of the current inspection, we found that people were given a choice about how they wanted to be cared for and supported and that people had now been given a contract detailing their fees and what they were for which they had signed up to. People’s medication was being managed appropriately and action had been taken where issues had been identified. Staffing arrangements had also been improved and staff were now taking reasonable breaks between shifts.

People told us that the manager of the home was very supportive and listened to their concerns and acted on them.

During an inspection in response to concerns

We undertook the inspection in response to concerns raised with us.

The people we spoke with were satisfied with the care they had received and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. One person told us, "It is lovely here, I have a bit of company, the staff make sure we get a choice of TV programmes, they look after me really well and they are considerate”. Another person told us, “You can ask the night staff to open the kitchen when it is locked; the last cup of tea is about 9 pm”. Other people told us how the kitchen was locked on occasions during the day and all night, which meant they were unable to get a drink or something to eat if they wanted to. People also told us that staff often slept at night, whilst on duty. However, the manager provided documentary evidence that staff recorded checks on people during the night.

We were told that people had to pay for their own holiday and that they did not have a choice whether they went on holiday or not.

We identified concerns with regards to the administration of medication this meant people may be at risk because people did not always take the medication prescribed to them. We found that on occasions some staff worked too many hours which may mean they are tired and could not provide the support that people required. We also found that there were no contracts in place for the fees charged to people which meant they did not have a breakdown of what they were paying for and may have been overcharged.
