Updated 3 July 2026
Date of assessment: 22 July to 27 July 2026. St Martins Residential Home is a care home for up to 26 people, providing personal care and accommodation to older people and including those living with dementia. There were 24 people using the service at the time of our inspection. We undertook an unannounced inspection on 22 July to 27 July 2026, with onsite activity on the 22 July 2026. The accommodation for people was over 3 floors with access to a large garden and easy access to the local community.
This inspection was conducted to determine whether the service had made improvements since our last inspection. The provider had previously remained in breach of the legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment, as well as good governance, at their last inspection. At this inspection we found improvements had been made, particularly in relation to governance and care planning processes and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.
During the inspection, we found that quality assurance processes and audits were effectively identifying areas for improvement, and there was clear evidence of progress since our last inspection, particularly in relation to record keeping and addressing gaps in documentation.
We reviewed care plans that clearly detailed people's needs and included comprehensive risk assessments to guide staff on how to provide safe and individualised support. Care records contained detailed information about people's lives, preferences, interests, and personal histories, enabling staff to understand people well and deliver care that reflected their wishes and choices.
Staff had been recruited safely and received regular training, supervision, and ongoing support from the registered manager. Feedback about the registered manager was consistently positive from staff, people, relatives, and visiting professionals. People described the registered manager as kind, approachable, and knowledgeable about those living at the service.
