The lawrence house Group consists of Dowsett Road surgery (which was inspected), Lawrence House Surgery and Tottenham Hale Surgery, which were not part of this inspection as they are separately registered locations.

The practice has a patient list of approximately 4,500. Thirty seven percent of patients are aged under 18 and 15% are 65 or older. Forty five percent of patients have a long-standing health condition.

The services provided by the practice include child health care, ante and post-natal care, immunisations, sexual health and contraception advice and management of long term conditions. The practice does not currently undertake minor surgery but refers patients to another practice within the Lawrence House Group.

The practice shares governance procedures with the other practices within the group and there is a practice manager partner who has oversight of all governance to ensure that they are in line with all other policies and procedures within the group.

The practice team comprises of one male GP partner, two female GP partners, one salaried GP, one advanced nurse practitioner and a part time practice nurse. The team also includes a managing partner, operations manager, assistant operations manager and administration and reception staff.

Dowsett Road Surgery holds a General Medical Service (PMS) contract with NHS England. This is the standard contract between general practices and NHS England for delivering primary care services to local communities.

The practice’s opening hours are:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 8.30am – 6.30pm

Wednesday: 8.30am – 1pm

The group’s central telephone system is open between 8am and 6.30pm which can take messages for the practice and book appointments for patients at any of the Lawrence House Group locations.

Appointments are available at the following times:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 9am – 1pm and 3pm – 6pm

Wednesday: 9am – 1pm

Outside of these times, cover is provided by the local GP Federation HUB where appointments are available:

Monday – Friday: 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Weekends: 8am to 8pm

Patients are also directed to the 111 service for out of hours provision.

The practice is registered to provide the following regulated activities which we inspected: treatment of disease, disorder or injury; diagnostic and screening procedures; surgical procedures; family planning; maternity and midwifery services.

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Dowsett Road Surgery on 18 July 2018. This was as part of our inspection programme. The practice was registered by the Lawrence House Group with the CQC on 17 October 2017

At this inspection we found:

  • The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes.
  • The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence- based guidelines.
  • Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
  • Patients found the appointment system easy to use and reported that they were able to access care when they needed it.
  • There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.
