During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who lived at the service and spoke with one care worker and the registered manager during the inspection. One person told us "It's a good place to live". Another person said "I like it here". We observed that care staff treated people with respect and asked them for their preferences when they delivered care.

We saw that people were asked for their consent relating to the care they were provided with and we saw that people had signed their care plans and had signed consent relating to their medication.

People had care plans and risk management plans which were updated regularly and reflected the needs of the individuals who used the service. Staff knew the needs of residents well and were able to explain how they met individual needs.

People told us they felt safe in the service. Care staff had had training about protection of vulnerable adults and were aware of the ways to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns. Medication was stored appropriately and the recording which related to the dispensation of medication was accurate and safe.

Staff had training in relevant areas including training specifically based on the needs of people who used the home. People were able to give their opinions and views about the service and the service developed as a result of this. There were regular residents' meetings and staff meetings. People and care staff felt able to raise concerns with management.

2 November 2012

During a routine inspection

We met and spoke with three of the four people who lived at the home, although only briefly with one person. They told us that they liked living at the home and received all the support that they needed.

People told us 'Its fine here,' 'Its alright,' and 'I get enough support from staff.' They appeared to be supported appropriately within the home, and told us that they were provided with the care that they needed. Our observations indicated that they were given choices, and had formed good and supportive relationships with staff members. People also told us that they were supported to engage in activities of their choosing.

People lived in an environment that was well maintained. They told us that the home was furnished and decorated in accordance with their preferences.

Staff received appropriate supervision and there was a training plan in place for the staff team. Appropriate records were maintained within the home to protect people from the risk of unsafe or inappropriate care.
