During a routine inspection

We talked with two people receiving support, and the house manager, a team leader and a member of support staff. We saw that people receiving support were relaxed with staff, and were being enabled to follow their choice of lifestyles. Their consent had been obtained for all aspects of the support they required. This included assistance with daily living skills such as managing money, and going out into the community. We found that staff had supported people with obtaining college placements and work placements.

Support staff were aware of people’s individual health needs and assisted them with attending medical appointments.

We found that staff were well informed about safeguarding vulnerable adults, and knew the action to take if they suspected that people may be at risk of being abused.

We found that there were reliable processes in place for support staff to help people receiving support to understand the importance of promoting good infection control, and to help implement this.

We talked with staff about their training and development, and viewed three staff training files at the head office. We found that all mandatory training was completed prior to support staff commencing work, and staff were supported with further training to develop their skills.

We found that the company had appropriate systems in place to obtain people’s feedback and views about the support they received. Their viewpoints were listened to and were acted on.

During a routine inspection

The inspection was carried out by one Inspector and lasted for over four hours. During this time we (i.e. CQC) visited Springfield House, where we met and talked with four of the people living there, viewed the premises and looked at records. We talked with three staff as well as the registered manager. We completed the inspection with a visit to the company’s head office where we looked at staff recruitment files and other relevant records which were stored at the office. We talked with management staff during this time.

People living at the home spoke positively about their experiences of living there. They said they liked living there, and were able to make their own choices about their lifestyles. They said that the staff supported them with making decisions about what they wanted to do. One person said “The staff are great here, and they give us all the support we need.”
