All Inspections

23 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We previously inspected Leyton Road Dental practice and found that they were not meeting some of the regulations that we had inspected. We re-inspected the practice on 23 December 2013 to see if the practice was now meeting the regulations.

We found that the practice had made the changes required to meet the regulations and that people were being treated in a practice that was equipped to deal with any foreseeable emergencies and had a robust infection control system in place. The provider was also now regularly monitoring patient feedback on the service that was being provided.

We saw from the patient surveys and from speaking with people who used the service that they were happy with the service that was provided by the dentist at the practice. We were told however that the practice did use 'Locum' dentists from time to time and that they did not think that the locum dentists were always aware of the treatment options available.

During an inspection in response to concerns

During our visits we did had the opportunity to speak to only two people who used the practice. They told us that they found the practice to be good and were happy to take their children there. They told us that they were treated with respect and that their privacy was respected.

We found the practice to be generally meeting the needs of the people, however we found that some of the practices in relation to infection control had not fully ensured that the risk of cross infection had been reduced. The practice did not aways have a medical history of the people had been treated at the practice. We found that there was no clear lead on who was responsible for infection control and staff were unclear about their responsibilities. Cleaning of the surgery was unsupervised.

There were no systems in place to audit the practices to identify and address any failing within the surgery.

We found that the staff were aware of their safeguarding responsibility to children and vulnerable adults.
