Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 2

Treating people as individuals

Score: 2

Independence, choice and control

Score: 2

The provider did not always promote people’s independence, so people did not always knowtheir rights and have choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

There were limited activities and social stimulation provided in the home. Staff playing bingo with some people and records demonstrated staff spent some time with people on an individual basis chatting and reminiscing. However, feedback received from people, relatives and health professionals suggested more activities were required to meet people’s social and emotional needs. Improvements had been made around activities following the last assessment including increasing staff to deliver activities. However, further work was required to understand people’s individual interests and encourage participation. The registered manager and provider confirmed further work was on-going to develop a more varied and meaningful activity programme.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

Staff demonstrated a good understanding of the people they supported and responded to their needs in a timely and attentive manner. Call bells were answered without delay, ensuring people’s needs were met promptly.
