Inspection carried out on 24 September 2012

During a routine inspection

During our inspection visit we spoke with six people using the service and asked them about their experience of the service. People told us they were satisfied with the accommodation, facilities and the care and support provided. One person said “The staff are very good to me and genuinely care for me.” Another person said “I know if I needed help I could use the emergency bell and they’ll be here in seconds.”

People had a range of assessments and care plans that detailed the care and support they needed. Records showed people had access to a range of health and social care professionals to meet their health care needs. People’s care and support needs were monitored and reviewed regularly. Staff received regular training which enabled them to meet people’s care needs.

People told us they were satisfied with the meals provided. One person said “The meals are very nice and there’s always something else if you don’t like what’s on the menu.”

People felt safe with the staff who supported them. Arrangements were in place to enable people to maintain their independence and promote their rights. We observed staff supporting people in a manner that respected people’s dignity and privacy.

People using the service and their relatives had opportunities to make comment about the quality of service received. The complaints procedure was displayed at the main entrance to the service and was included in the information people received when they moved to the service.
