During a routine inspection

Due to the transient nature of this service we were not able to speak with people who used the service. We were told much of the work of this ambulance service was taking patients from the South West to hospital appointments in London.

Medical Services had completed a survey from the Royal Marsden in December 2012, where some of the work was completed by the staff from the Bristol Station. Comments included 'staff are really friendly', 'excellent service, 'very reliable'. 60% of the people who used the service had rated it as excellent and 32.17% as good.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. We were told that the initial information received about a person using the service was used to assess the vehicle and equipment requirements for the person ensuring they were transported safely to their destination. This included the numbers and qualifications of the crew and the vehicle that was required.

Staff did not receive training at regular intervals ensuring their had the skills and knowledge to support people who use the service.

Medical Services Ltd had a suitable system in place to check the quality of care and the overall service people received. However, not all audits were being completed at the Bristol Location.
