Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 9 September to 23 September 2026. The service is a nursing home providing support to older people some of whom were living with dementia. We visited the service following complaints made about the care being provided at the home. The local authority had visited the home and made several recommendations. There was an action plan. We checked if the provider was following this plan and had learned from mistakes that had been made. The visit took place out of hours and was unannounced.
We found the provider had learned from mistakes made, for example, they had recruited a clinical lead. This meant there was clear oversight of people’s health needs and clinical outcomes. Learning was being embedded in the service. Staff had received additional training. This meant they were able to do their roles effectively. There were clear safeguarding procedures. Equipment had been checked and met people’s needs. Staff understood people’s needs and what to do if a person’s needs changed. Staff were able to explain clearly how to escalate concerns.
There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular supervisions. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.
People's experience of this service
People told us they liked the home, they said they felt safe and had enough to eat and drink. One person said they had their appetite back and enjoyed the meals. Observations of staff and people was positive. Staff were kind and caring, some people were offered drinks and snacks. Some people were enjoying listening to music, reading aloud and chatting with staff.
People were in the lounge areas and in their bedrooms. People told us staff were good at their jobs. We spoke with some people who needed additional support with moving and re-positioning, they told us they were made comfortable and if they needed assistance staff were available when required. We observed people who were in their bedrooms had water or juice available and call bells placed within reach. Staff told us they monitored people regularly and if a person was unable to seek assistance they would check in on them more regularly. During our visit we observed appropriate moving and handling practices when people needed to be transferred from one area to another.
