All Inspections

30 April and 13 May 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke to eighteen people who use the service, three family members or carers and fourteen staff members during our two unannounced visits to Galsworthy House.

Comments from people using the service included 'it's a very good home', 'the service is excellent', 'so far, so very good' and 'I'm quite happy'. One person told us 'as homes go, I think it is one of the best'. Feedback about the staff was consistently positive including 'the staff are wonderful', 'lovely staff, no-one nasty here', 'the carers are very good' and 'the girls are charming, helpful and kind'.

Feedback from family members or carers included 'the amount of care given is quite incredible' and 'overall we are satisfied'. One person told us 'for our peace of mind, we know they are being looked after'.

The majority of people who use the service spoken to said that there were enough staff on duty to meet their needs however several individuals felt that there could be more staff provided particularly on the upper two floors. Staff spoken to generally felt that there were enough people on duty each day to meet people's needs. Some staff members felt that the skill mix of staff could vary on different shifts which could potentially impact on the care being provided.

28 May and 15 June 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke to fifteen people who use the service, two visitors and seven staff members during both our unannounced visits to Galsworthy House Nursing Home.

Some people who use the service are living with dementia and therefore not everyone was able to tell us about their experiences. We used our SOFI (Short Observational Framework for Inspection) tool during our first unannounced visit. This observation tool allows us to spend time watching what is going on in a service and record how people spend their time, the type of support they get and whether they have positive experiences.

Overall comments received about the home included 'I've always been impressed', 'I'm very happy here', 'a very nice place' and 'they do very well here'. Comments from visitors included 'they are well cared for' and 'wonderful, everyone is really nice'.

The people we spoke to said that they were treated with respect and their comments included 'they treat me well', 'they are polite and respectful', 'yes, usually polite' and 'they treat you well here'. Our observation was that interactions between people who use the service and staff were kind and respectful.
