All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We visited the offices of Spelthorne Re-ablement Service and spoke to senior staff. We viewed care records of people who used the service and personnel records of staff. At the time of our visit the service was supporting 20 people and had 19 care staff. Following out visit we spoke to two people who used the service and two relatives on the telephone. We also spoke with three members of staff on the telephone.

People and their relatives told us that staff always asked for their consent before providing any care or support. One person told us 'They ask before doing anything' and one relative said 'They always ask if he would like a shave'.

We saw that people's care needs were assessed and that care and support was delivered in line with people's needs. People and their relatives told us that they were happy with their care. One person told us that staff were 'Very good' and 'They have been absolutely brilliant'.

We saw that the provider had policies and procedures in place in relation to infection control. People told us that they had no concerns about the cleanliness and hygiene of staff. For example, one person told us 'Staff are always washing their hands'.

We looked at other records during our visit and saw that the provider had systems in place to monitor the quality of the care they provided.

During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit the service was supporting twenty people. During our inspection we spoke with seven staff and looked at records. We spoke with three people who used the service and one relative by telephone following our visit.

People told us that staff treated them with respect and listened to them so that they were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment. One person told us 'My carers always ask me what I want them to do'.

People told us that they were well cared for and that staff were 'Lovely' and 'Kind'. We saw that support plans were up to date and detailed people's care needs although a team leader told us that these were not reviewed due to the short term nature of the support.

People we spoke with told us that they thought that staff knew what they were doing so they felt safe. Staff told us they had training and could ask for additional training if they had a specific need. For example, dementia awareness.

We looked at quality monitoring systems and saw that surveys were sent out to people who used the service and most people were satisfied with their care.

We saw that complaints were logged on to a computer system and that these had been investigated. People we spoke with all told us that they knew who to contact to raise a concern or make a complaint if they needed to.
