During an inspection looking at part of the service

When we arrived we found that there were eight people living at the home who were all getting ready to go to college. We spoke to three people who used the service, the registered manager, home manager and three members of staff.

Everybody we spoke with told us that they were happy living at the home and felt that the provider understood their specific care needs. People spoken with told us, 'I am happy to be here' and, 'It's fine here, just as good as it always was'.

At our last visit we were concerned that people's care plans did not contain enough information to support people's individual care and welfare needs. At this inspection we saw that things had improved. The provider had reviewed the care records of each person who used the service. They had developed individual risk assessments to manage any risks associated with each person's specific conditions. All the staff we spoke to could explain the people's care plans and therefore knew how to deliver care which met people's needs and kept them safe from the risk of harm.

During a routine inspection

When we visited we found that the home provided care for 12 young people with a range of needs. All of the people attend the providers own specialist college located near to the care home. We spent time with three people using the service while they were getting ready to leave for college. We also spoke to two care staff, the team leader and senior manager. We looked at care records and policies to help us understand the experiences of the people using the service.

All the people we spoke to told us that the workers caring for them had a good manner, respected their dignity and spoke to them as adults. One person who used the service told us, "The staff are really great. I like it here".

We found that staff treated people with respect and supported them in a friendly, engaging manner. A person who was being supported to leave for college on time told us, 'The staff here are great, they treat me as an intelligent human being'.

The provider did not always have care plans in place to manage the individual health and support needs of some of the people who use the service.

We saw that the provider had made suitable arrangements to ensure that people were safeguarded against the risk of abuse. All the staff we spoke to knew how to keep people safe.

We found that care workers were skilled, qualified and competent to provide people with the care they required to meet their individual needs.
