During a routine inspection

People were consulted about their care and treatment options were provided. People who used the service told us, 'The nurse has told me about what's available for me' and 'I sort of know what to expect the nurse has told me.'

Assessments were completed for each person who used the service and a plan of care was developed. Staff made sure the care plans reflected what treatment the person needed and the decisions they had made, for example if they had refused treatment and why.

Staff were aware how to report any abuse and how to safeguard both children and adults. They also received training and support which helped protect people.

There was enough staff on duty to meet people's needs. The staff had received training which equipped them to meet people's needs. People we spoke with were complementary about the staff. Comments included, 'The staff are very good and caring' and 'They are fine.' A visiting translator told us, 'They spend time talking to the patients and making sure they receive the right care and attention.'

There was a complaints procedure for people to use if they were not happy with the service. This was audited by the provider and action taken to rectify any issues raised.

We spoke briefly with two people in the waiting room. They both felt the service they accessed to be discreet in general but the waiting area and reception did not add to privacy. One person felt the radio playing music at the reception helped prevent others hearing you give details to the receptionist. The premises were clean, tidy and the decor was to a high standard. Systems were in place to prevent the risk of infection.

We found that the procedure for giving consent in the sexual health service helped provide informed consent and that the assessments made led to appropriate plans of care and treatment. Treatment reflected appropriate published guidance. Staff were trained and supported to give safe high quality care and the provider had a programme of quality assurance that enabled informed decision making and improvements to the service.
