During a routine inspection

We visited the office of Yorkshire Care Support Services Limited who provided support to people in their own homes. We spoke with four members of staff, the deputy manager and the registered manager. During our inspection we looked at records and other documentation to gather evidence of people's experiences of the service. We spoke by telephone with eight people who used the service to gain their views about their experience of the service provided.

All the people we spoke with were complimentary about the service with comments such as “They look after me very well” and “They always turn up, even when we had all that snow last winter.” All of the people spoken with felt they were treated with dignity and respect and had their privacy maintained by all the staff. One person told us “I look forward to them coming.”

We saw that care records were reviewed and people had been involved with the reviews. These reviews helped in monitoring whether care records were up to date and reflected people’s current needs so that any necessary actions could be identified at an early stage.

People spoken with told us “The care is very good” and “They look after me very well.”

The provider used their own corporate safeguarding vulnerable adults and safeguarding of children policies. These policies provided staff with guidance on their roles and responsibilities, action to take in response to suspected or alleged abuse, definitions of abuse and reporting safeguarding concerns to the relevant external bodies.

People we spoke with confirmed they felt safe and comfortable with their care staff. One person we spoke with told us “My carers treat me with respect and are very pleasant and caring.” Another person said “I have super carers. We get on well, they understand my needs.”

Staff received appropriate professional development. Records we looked at showed staff had undertaken a range of training in topics linked to the care and welfare of people.

There were systems in place to identify, analyse and review risks and incidents. There was evidence that learning from incidents and investigations took place and appropriate changes were implemented.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service and they told us that before they were offered a care package their care was agreed with them and they knew what to expect.

People told us they felt the staff respected their wishes when carrying out their care. For example, one person told us they had requested to have female carers and their wishes were respected.

People told us they were happy with the care they received. They told us the staff came on time and carried out the care they were supposed to. They also said, “If they are going to be late, then they ring you to let you know.”

Other comments included, "I’ve got a good service." "I am quite pleased with them and they are very caring. They always do a little bit extra if I ask and I don’t know what I would do without them."
