Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 10 October 2025

The service was extremely caring and well-staffed. People received responsive care when they needed it from staff who were exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion. Unique to the service were the ‘hummingbirds’, specialist staff employed to spend time and connect with people living with dementia. They devoted their time to interacting with people, enhancing their quality of life and well-being.

The registered manager and staff had excellent relationships with people, relatives, visitors, and each other. The culture of the service was one of family and friendship. Over 30 volunteers supported the service, visiting and befriending people and organising religious and other activities.

People had highly personalised care plans setting out the care and support they needed and how they wanted staff to provide this. Staff worked effectively with health care professionals who visited the service regularly to ensure people’s healthcare needs were met. People made choices about all aspects of their care and support and were encouraged to be independent and engage with the local community.

The premises were spacious, comfortable, and clean. Meals were wholesome and varied with people’s individual likes and dislikes catered for. There was a wide range of group and 1-2-1 activities for people to take part in if they wished.

The service was based on Christian values, and this was explained in its statement of purpose. There were daily prayers, hymns and Bible readings. The provider’s vision was based on a caring, person-centred, holistic approach to the care of older people which considered their individual and spiritual needs.

The service was well-led. The registered manager and provider carried out regular audits to ensure all aspects of the service were running safely and effectively. People, relatives, and staff were listened to and their views considered when changes and improvements were made to the service.
