Our view of the service

Alexander Court Care Centre is a care home providing support with nursing and personal care. The service is registered to support up to 82 people. At the time of inspection 81 people were using the service. The assessment took place from 23 September to 30 September 2025.

We undertook an unannounced inspection visit to the service on 23 September 2025. We met with the registered manager and other staff, along with people who used the service. We subsequently carried out telephone interviews with relatives of people who used the service. We have undertaken a comprehensive inspection which means we have reviewed all 33 quality statements. As a result of this inspection, we have rated the service as good for safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, leading to a good overall rating for the service.

We found that quality assurance and monitoring systems used by the provider were not always effective. We identified a number of concerns during our inspection. These included locked fire exits, pressure relieving mattresses set at the incorrect weight, people’s records not always kept up to date and equipment required for use in a medical emergency not readily to hand. Although we found no evidence that people had been harmed by these shortfalls, there was a potential for harm, and the provider should have picked these concerns up. This was a breach f Regulation 17 of Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

Shortly after our inspection the provider wrote to us with details of the actions they had taken to address our concerns.

Steps had been taken to safeguard people from abuse and risk assessments were in place to help mitigate risks people faced. There were enough staff to support people and robust staff recruitment practices were in place. Medicines were managed in a way that was safe. People’s needs were assessed and reviewed. Staff undertook training to support them in their role. Staff, management and people worked together to ensure needs were met. People were able to consent to their care. The provider promoted the wellbeing of its staff. Care and support was person-centred. People were listened to and involved in planning their care. Staff who used the service spoke positively about the leadership team and there was a shared and open culture at the service.

People's experience of this service

People and relatives spoke highly of the service. One relative told us, “I think it’s wonderful, the care home and the carers, I can’t speak more highly of. I trust them to care for [person]. I’m very grateful to the home.” Another relative said, “[Person] seems to be fine there; I’ve never heard any complaints from them. I have never had any problems and I have never seen anything I didn’t like.” People experienced care that was person-centred, based around their individual needs. Staff who worked with people interacted with them in a way that promoted their privacy, dignity and independence. People received care and support that was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
