Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
People and relatives told us staff treated them kindly and routinely offered choice and control. Comments included, “The carers are very kind, and we have a good relationship, and we chat a lot. I enjoy their company,” and “They allow my loved one to be independent and always check they are ok before leaving.” Staff spoke warmly about people and told us about examples of how they respected people’s privacy and dignity and promoted independence. For example, 1 staff member told us they involved people in making their own drinks and snacks when they wished to. Care notes were written in a way that demonstrated respect for people.
The provider supported people to access assistive technology. This also supported people to be more independent. For example, 1 person used technology to prompt them with their medication and no longer required support from staff in this area. Assistive technology was also being used to support people to keep in contact with their loved ones.
