At our last assessment we rated this key question Requires improvement. At this assessment, the rating has changed to Good. This meant the service was consistently managed and well-led. Leaders and the culture they created promoted high-quality, person-centred care. The monitoring of risk and quality in the service improved. Action had been taken to address previously identified shortfalls including, implementing comprehensive infection prevention and control policies and audit schedules, regular reviewing of the risk register and improvement plan and monitoring staff supervisions, appraisals, competencies and training.

Governance, management and sustainability

Score: 3

The provider had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver good quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They acted on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and shared this securely with others when appropriate.

The effectiveness of the provider’s governance processes had improved. Staff were clear on their roles and responsibilities in monitoring health and safety risks, infection prevention and control as well as training and supervision. A comprehensive risk register supported leaders to monitor performance and the practice’s improvement plan was discussed at practice leadership meetings which documented outcomes for audit trail purposes.

The practice held adequate emergency medicines with regular checks to ensure there was sufficient stock within expiry dates. The practice stored vaccines and medicines requiring refrigeration with regular checks to ensure these were stored within safe temperatures. Staff demonstrated awareness of practice emergency processes and how to raise concerns.
