During an assessment under our new approach
Maycroft Care Home is a residential care service that provides accommodation and personal care for up to 25 people. At the time of our inspection there were 21 people living at the service.
We carried out this inspection to follow up on concerns. This was prompted by a high number of concerns within the providers other services across the country and the significant time that has passed since our last rated inspection in 2018.
At our last inspection the service was rated good.
The assessment was unannounced and was carried out by 1 inspector, and 2 Experts by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service.
The assessment started on 6 January 2026 and ended on 29 January 2026. We gathered information from people who used the service, family members, the registered manager and care staff working at the service. We undertook a comprehensive assessment looking at all the quality statements.
During the inspection, we spoke with 11 people who use the service, 15 family members, the registered manager, operations director, and 8 members of staff.
We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We reviewed a range of records. This included people’s care and medicine records. We looked at staff files in relation to recruitment and staff supervision. A variety of records relating to the management of the service were reviewed.
People received safe and effective care and were protected from the risk of avoidable harm.
People received their medicines as prescribed. There were good systems to protect people from the risk of infection and cross contamination and staff followed good practice. The service was clean, fresh and well-maintained. There were systems in place for the safe recruitment of staff.
People and their relatives were involved in their pre-admission assessment, care planning and the management of individual risks. Staff received regular training and had their competencies checked. Staff spoke favourably of the management team and felt listened to and consulted.
The provider’s monitoring systems worked well and identified areas for improvement.
