During an inspection looking at part of the service

During our previous inspection in August 2013 we found that patients were not always protected from the risk of infection. We also found the provider did not have effective systems to monitor the quality of the service that was provided.

The provider sent us an action plan detailing how they would improve the service.

During this inspection we found the provider had taken all the action outlined in the plan to address the issues we had raised.

We saw that one of the surgeries had been refitted which included new flooring. This ensured that all surfaces in clinical areas could be cleaned appropriately. Infection control audits had also been carried out. This meant patients were protected from the risk of infection.

The provider had created an audit calendar for the year. Several audits including records, radiographs and waste had been completed with any necessary improvements to be made detailed in an action plan. We found all staff we spoke with were aware of these audit results through regular team meetings.

A patient satisfaction survey had been completed and we saw evidence that comments were acted on by the provider in order to improve the service.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with explained that confidential issues were discussed privately in the surgery and staff only discussed appointments at reception. One person said, "they're discreet, they will explain in a room if it's confidential."

We spoke with five people who were at the surgery for treatment or check ups. All five people spoke highly about the care, support and treatment they had been given by the practice. One person said, "I have nothing bad to say at all."

Staff were knowledgeable about the decontamination process of instruments, however, we found that the sinks located in both surgeries were not suitable and that appropriate flooring in one of the surgeries was not in place.

We saw records that equipment and infection control audits had taken place, however we did not see records that showed that the surgery had regularly assessed and monitored the quality of the service.
