During an inspection looking at part of the service

This inspection was to check if the provider had taken action to address the shortfalls we found when we carried out our last inspection in July 2013. These were regarding the processes in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection and check the clinic was operating correctly.

At this visit we found the provider had addressed the shortfalls we identified at our last inspection. We saw they had appropriate systems and equipment in place to monitor and minimise the risk of infection.

We also found regular checks had been introduced to assess how the clinic was operating and to check if staff were following the correct policies and procedures.

On this occasion we did not speak to people who used the service. However their experiences were captured through information received from the provider, checking records and speaking with the registered manager and staff.

During a routine inspection

People were assessed and treatment was planned in line with their individual needs. The people we spoke with commented positively about their experiences following their initial consultation or follow up appointments after surgery. They told us staff were efficient, courteous and helpful. One person said, 'They explained everything really clearly including the worst case scenarios.'

The systems in place were not effective in reducing the risk and spread of infection. People told us the clinic was clean and well maintained. However, checks had not taken place to make sure staff were following the correct procedures and risks were minimised.

We saw staff had undertaken training to update and increase their knowledge. The people we spoke with told us they thought staff were good at their job. One person told us, 'They are brilliant.'

We saw that people who used the service had been asked for their views about the treatment they had received. The people we spoke with told us they were happy with the service they had received. They were complimentary about the staff and felt they provided a good discreet service.

We found regular checks had not taken place to assess how the clinic was operating and to check if staff were following the correct policies and procedures.
