Our view of the service
We assessed Hearts First Ambulance Service on 24 June to 25 June 2026. This was a fully comprehensive assessment due to an aged rating.
We rated this service as outstanding.
Managers demonstrated full oversight of the service provision and understood their regulatory requirements. The service had clear responsibilities for all staff and there were effective systems of accountability and good governance. They acted on the best information regarding risk, performance and outcomes. The services safeguarding oversight and processes were effective and consistent. The service carried out risk assessments to support safety. All staff received yearly appraisal and supervision.
Staff kept vehicles and equipment at an exceptional standard and stored vehicles securely. The service’s medical gases, medicines and consumables were stored in line with national guidance. Patients consistently provided good feedback about the service. Staff gave positive feedback regarding the service’s management.
The service recognised the diverse community they served. They delivered bespoke training to support staff to deliver good care.
Staff demonstrated innovation and learning in all aspects of the service. Managers had actively invested in staff development and fleet upgrades to support a high standard of patient transport. Commissioners praised the staff and managers for consistently achieving performance targets and outstanding service delivery.
