All Inspections

21 May 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection of Baldock Core & Cluster, we found that care plans were current and reflected the needs of people living in the home. Staff demonstrated a good understanding and knowledge of the care and support people required.

Procedures were in place which ensured that people using the service received their medication appropriately and staff had undertaken training.

Since our last inspection improvements have been made to the records. Records showed that staff had regular ongoing training sessions to ensure that they safely delivered care and support to people.

The provider had a system in place to check that people were satisfied with the service. This included a written questionnaire, which was sent to people each year, various monitoring checks on a number of aspects of the service.

6 November 2012

During a routine inspection

During our inspection on 6 November 2012, we used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because some of the people using the service had complex needs, which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences.

We visited four out of the five homes within the Baldock Core and Cluster.

We observed and talked to staff who were very knowledgeable about the people who live at the homes within Baldock Core & Cluster and were able to understand their needs.

Care records we looked at provided staff with the information required to support people's care needs.

19 March 2012

During a routine inspection

Although none of the people who we met with were able to verbally tell us what it was like using the service we observed how the staff were supporting them with their care and support needs. We noted that the staff interacted with people who use the service in a positive, supportive, caring and respectful way. People using the serviced responded positively to the way that their care and support needs were being met. They demonstrated signs of well-being including smiling and becoming calmer following short episodes of being unhappy.

Family members of people using the service made positive comments about the way their relatives were cared for and supported by the service. Comments included: "We couldn't be happier, absolutely delighted, nice place and nice people." and "The staff treat all the residents with respect." and "Since my relative has been there they have totally changed, they love it there, they are so happy."
