All Inspections

17 June 2013

During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we carried out telephone surveys with five people or their relatives and seven members of staff. We also spoke to one health care professional.

Everyone that we spoke with told us that they were treated with respect and dignity by staff. One person told us 'They look after me really well and make me comfortable.' The person who worked with the agency told us 'The client seems to be at the forefront of everything they do.'

People also told us that they were fully involved in developing their care plan and that they felt that staff encouraged them to be independent. We were told 'We discussed things in great detail' and 'They assist me, rather than do things for me.'

All of the people that we spoke with felt safe with staff. One person told us 'Very much so, yes.' We saw from the training records that all staff had undergone appropriate training that ensured people were kept safe.

We looked at the staff rotas and spoke to staff to assure ourselves that the agency had a sufficient number of staff to care for the needs of the people who used the service.

We found that the agency had recently sought the views of people who used the service to make sure they were happy with the care provided. We were told that they felt they could approach the agency with any concerns.

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

This was a follow up review to check whether the provider had completed the action plan submitted to CQC following their last inspection in July 2012. The action plan related to a lack of safeguarding awareness from staff, training matters and supervision of staff.

The provider had undertaken all mandatory training for all members of staff. They had also put in place regular supervision to ensure staff training needs were met.
