During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service and two people's close relatives. Most people told us they were very happy with the care provided by Skills Support. They said they received a very good service from the agency. One person said, 'The staff member who supports me is very supportive and knows me well.' Another person said, 'The staff are very good.'

Before people received care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. Where people did not have the capacity to consent, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. People who used the service were complimentary about the way care and support was organised. Most people told us the same staff arrived for each session. This ensured there was continuity of care.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed. Staff told us they had received training in infection control procedures.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work, there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received. One person's relative told us they were impressed with the way the agency asked for feedback, as they actively engaged with people.

During a routine inspection

We inspected the service the agency provided to nine people in their own homes, which included personal care. There were a number of people who used the service who we were not able to talk with to gain their views because we were not familiar with their way of communicating. However, we were able to speak with two people who used the service on the telephone. They told us they were very happy with the care provided by Skills Support. Both said they received a good service from the agency. One person said, 'The staff help me and they are my favourite staff.' Another said, 'They are very good carers.'

Both said the care staff helped them to be as independent as they could be and supported them to make sure they took their medication on time. They told us the care staff came at the right time, were flexible and always respected their dignity. Both people told us care staff always respected their privacy and rights.
