Updated 5 September 2025

Date of Assessment 1 July 2025

Numi Scan Ltd - Stansted baby scan clinic offers a range of 2D, 3D and 4D obstetric ultrasound services to expectant parents. Their services include early pregnancy reassurance scans and gender reveal scans, growth and well-being monitoring and non-invasive prenatal testing from as early as 7 weeks into pregnancy. The registered manager also offers vascular screening.

The clinic is staffed by a qualified sonographer who is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

The last inspection was in November 2019, and we rated the service overall Requires Improvement.  We found 2 breaches of the regulations in relation to governance and staffing. At this assessment in June 2025, the location was again rated Requires Improvement for continued breaches of governance and staffing. There was an additional breach in regulation for infection prevention and control.

There was a lack of robust systems to check and improve care. Risks were not well managed. The registered manager did not ensure ongoing training and service users were not fully involved in their care. Overall governance processes were not effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement.

However, feedback from service users was overwhelmingly positive and there had been no recorded incidents or concerns.

In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.

Diagnostic imaging

Updated 24 February 2020

Numi Scan Ltd offers a non-diagnostic ultrasound baby bonding service for women aged 18 and above. It is registered to provide the regulated activity of diagnostic and screening procedures.

The service primarily allows women who wish to know the gender of their baby before their 20 week NHS scan or to enable them to bond with their baby, later in pregnancy, using 2D or 4D ultrasound.

These are additional private ultrasound scans that are not part of any NHS screening programme. Early pregnancy reassurance scans are offered for mothers who would like to see if their foetus has a heartbeat.

The service also provides diagnostic vascular screening however five patents used this service in the last year. Facilities include one ultrasound room, a waiting area, reception and a toilet and are all located on the ground floor.

We rated the service as requires improvement overall.

We rated the service requires improvement for safe and well-led because the processes in place to ensure that the quality and safety of the service was not effective.

We rated the service as good for responsive because people could generally access the service when they needed.

We rated the service as good for caring because feedback from patients was positive and we were told of positive interactions during our inspection.

We do not currently rate the effectiveness of diagnostic imaging services.
