Our view of the service
Assessment was completed between 28 February and 11 March 2024. The Chiltern Medical Clinic Reading is managed by Medical Skin Clinics Ltd. The service is a private clinic specialising in plastic surgery located in Reading, Berkshire. The site includes, a treatment room, three therapist rooms, two waiting rooms, and two consultation rooms. The service is registered to provide the regulated activities: Surgical procedures, Diagnostic and screening procedures and Treatment of disease, disorder or injury. The assessment reviewed 5 quality statements in the well led domain, including: shared direction and culture; capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders; freedom to speak up; governance, management and sustainability; and learning, improvement and innovation. We found a breach of the legal regulations in relation to governance. We found risks and concerns raised during governance meetings were not sufficiently documented to provide assurances that issues were appropriately mitigated. Where issues and concerns were found, there was no evidence of follow up to ensure completion. However, the service demonstrated there was learning and improvement since the previous inspection, for example, service was now collecting quality patient reported outcome measures, the service now ensured that water testing, including testing for Legionnaires, was completed by staff with training and certified competencies. The services website now clearly noted that access to the site was only available via stairs and if patients had any mobility concerns to visit the Goring on Thames location, which was all on ground level. Staff could now describe to us where all emergency equipment was located at each site.
