Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 13 January 2026. Poole PET-CT Centre is based at an NHS Foundation trust and is owned and operated by Alliance Medical Limited. This service performs PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and CT (Computed Tomography) scans for NHS patients from all NHS Trusts in the geographical area. A PET-CT scan is a diagnostic imaging scan combining Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) into one image (PET-CT). These scans used a non-harmful radioactive tracer to identify abnormal metabolic activity with the body.

This assessment looked at diagnostic and imaging services due an aged rating, which we had previously rated as requires improvement. The rating of Poole PET-CT Centre has improved to good.

We rated the service as good. Staff assessed and mitigated risks. There were enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs. Staff consistently protect people from abuse and improper treatment. Staff assessed risk to people's health and safety and mitigated them where identified. Governance systems and audits were effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement.

People's experience of this service

Patients and their family or carers were all positive about the staff scanning and caring for them. They said staff treated them with kindness. They told us they felt informed and involved during their experience of accessing the service.

During the inspection patients spoke positively about how staff had supported them while using the service. There was consistent feedback saying staff were excellent.
