During a routine inspection

We were unable to speak directly with the people receiving personal care from the service, due to their complex needs. Therefore we spoke with three relatives of people using the service. People told us that they were happy and satisfied with the care and support being provided. Comments made to us included, 'They've been an absolute godsend' and 'I really can't recommend them highly enough'. People told us that they were always involved in any care planning with the agency; and no care was given to their relative without their consent.

There were appropriate policies and procedures in place for the prevention and control of infection. People told us that staff always used equipment such as gloves and aprons when providing personal care. There were sufficient numbers of trained and qualified staff to provide the care required. People told us they fed back their views to the provider on an ongoing basis, and that any problems were sorted out straightaway.

During a routine inspection

The service provided care for eight people who lived in their own homes. We spoke with two people who used the service, and their relatives. They told us that they were satisfied with the service. One relative told us, "I have been very impressed with the service." One person said "I am kept informed. They ask me all along the way what is needed. When I have called them for extra support, they have been more than willing to help on any occasion." We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

People we spoke with told us they were involved in making decisions about care, and were kept informed about any changes to the care that was needed. We found that people expressed their views and were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

We found that people who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. We found there was an effective complaints system available.

We also found that people were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.
