During an inspection looking at part of the service

This was a follow up visit to this service to check that the provider had completed the actions we had requested following the previous inspection visit. The two staff that assisted us told us that the service provided a non-urgent medical transport service to people who have been involved in an accident, usually while on holiday abroad. People who used this service were then repatriated back to the United Kingdom and were transported either to a Hospital, medical centre or to their home address.

The service operated out of an office base in St Albans in Hertfordshire. We were told that people usually had been medically discharged when they used this service; documentation had now been altered to reflect this.

We saw documentation that included basic details of the people who used the service. This information was given to the service by the relevant insurance company and included the details of the person's name, age and where they were collected from and transported to. In some cases the person who used the service was accompanied by a medical assistant or nurse who continued to support the person using the service. We were unable to speak to anybody who used the service as there were no contact details of the people retained by the service.

During a routine inspection

The provider told us that they provide a non urgent medical transport service to people who have been involved in an accident, usually while on holiday abroad. People who used this service are then repatriated back to the United Kingdom and are transported either to a Hospital, medical centre or to their home address.

The service operated out of an office base in St Albans in Hertfordshire. The provider told us that people do not receive care from this service it is a transportation service only.

We were unable to speak to people who used this service as part of our compliance inspection because the provider does not have, or keep detailed records relating to people who used the service.

Basic information is given to the service by the relevant insurance company and the record details the person's name, age and where they are being collected from and transported to. There were no medical records given to the provider.
