All Inspections

3 October 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we visited three people who used the service in their homes, spoke with another two people on the telephone and spoke with the relative of another person. We also spoke with two support staff, the service manager and a regional manager.

People we spoke with told us they were satisfied with the care and support being provided and that their choices were respected. Staff had a good understanding of the needs of people who used the service and said they felt valued and supported in their roles. People we spoke with were complimentary about their support staff and felt comfortable with the care being provided.

We looked at the records of five people who used the service and found support plans were detailed and thorough and provided clear guidance to staff about how the persons' support should be delivered.

Staff had been appropriately screened to ensure they were suitable to work with vulnerable people.

The service had an appropriate quality assurance system and records were accurate and well maintained.

6 November 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with one person who used the service and they told us they were satisfied with the care and support that had been provided. They told us staff supported them with cooking and said 'they are lovely and anything I need doing they do for me'.

We looked at the support plans and records of four people who used the service and found people's needs were assessed and care was planned and delivered in line with their individual plan. Records showed that staff supported people to access community facilities and encouraged and respected the choices people made. For example, we saw that people had been supported to look for voluntary work opportunities. One person had expressed an interest in working with animals and the service had helped them find work at a local farm.

We found staff were aware of how to safeguard people and how to recognise different forms of abuse and that they received appropriate professional development.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people using the service and others.

The service was compliant with the essential standards of quality and safety that we inspected.
