During a routine inspection

We saw that people received the necessary information to enable them to make an informed decision about their treatment. This and the other evidence reviewed showed us that people's privacy, dignity and independence were respected by this service.

Individual treatment records were well completed and demonstrated to us that each person received treatment that was in line with the best practice guidelines as outlined by the relevant Royal Colleges and issued by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). This showed us that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare.

Staff told us that they were confident that they knew what to do if they identified any potential safeguarding concerns. This meant that people who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse. The provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Staff were up to date with their mandatory training and had been supported to attended additional training opportunities. This demonstrated to us that people were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

All of the records kept by the service were seen to be accurate and fit for purpose. This meant that people were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because appropriate records were maintained.

During a routine inspection

Staff spoken with were able to outline the steps they took to ensure that each person was aware of the treatment that they were going to receive and were able to outline how ongoing consent to treatment was reviewed and monitored. This showed us that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. We reviewed the available treatment records in detail and these showed us that the individual received treatment that was in line with best practice guidelines. This demonstrated to us that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

A service level agreement was in place with each NHS and private hospital where the provider operated. This showed us that people's health, safety and welfare was protected when more than one provider was involved in their care and treatment, or when they moved between different services. This was because the provider worked in co-operation with others. We saw that preventative maintenance records were in place and that equipment was being maintained in line with the manufacturers' requirements. This showed us that people were protected from unsafe or unsuitable equipment. Records were in place that demonstrated that the provider reviews and monitors each treatment provided. This showed us that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.
